Thai Passport Application and Renewal

Documents required when applying for a Thai passport:

  • Two Passport application forms

  • 13 Digit Thai Identification card

Other documents (if applicable):

  • Certificate of personal name change

  • Marriage registration certificate

  • Divorce registration certificate

  • Adoption registration certificate

  • House registration document

Thai passport first time application and renewal must be submitted in person. For those who are under 20 years of age, you need consent of your parents or legal guardian(s), who must accompany the minor applicant at the passport office. If one of the parents is unable to come, he/she must sign a letter of consent issued by the Thai registration office, which must be presented at the passport office by the other parent.

Lost Or Stolen Passports

If you lose your Thai passport, report the incident to the local police immediately before contacting the Thai embassy or consular representative office. A police report is essential before a new passport or a certificate of identity can be issued.

If you are visiting another country temporarily, a certificate of identity will be issued as your travel document.

If you are a student or working in abroad  and must remain in the country, The Royal Thai Embassy or The Royal Thai Consulate General will issue a new passport, pending approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Documents required when applying for a replacement passport:

  •  Reason for new passport and how it was lost or stolen.

  • A police report with case number, case officer’s name, and contact telephone number.

  • Thai identification card or civil servant identification card (if applicable).

  • Photocopy of old passport (if available) and/or passport number.

  • If currently residing abroad, specify type of entry visa including date of validity. If applicant is a student, a letter of certification that includes date of enrollment from the educational institution is required.

Legalization

Documents:

Any other document requiring legalization will be processed through the Embassy of Thailand.

Procedure:

In order to obtain legalization, you need to present the original document. This should be a signed, notarized or a State issued Document. Along with the original please send one copy of each document.

The Legalization process at the Embassy usually takes about 4 business days.

Customers should include their own return airway bill issued by UPS or FedEx with the document, along with a check or credit card information for payment of legalization fees. For individual orders please complete your credit card number on the form.

Fees

For obtaining legalization you have to pay for the following fees:

  • Notary

  • DC Treasury 

  • US State Dept

  • Embassy of Thailand

  • Money Order – The Embassy only accepts money orders

  • Copy fee

  • Messenger – Depending on the type of document and how many stops

Birth Certificates

To obtain a Thai birth certificate for a Child who was born abroad to a Thai father or a Thai mother, please submit the following documents:

  • Parents’ Passports including Thai Identification Card and one photocopy
  • Certificate of Marriage and one photocopy.
  • An original large size Canadian Birth Certificate issued by the office of Vital Statistics of Canada and indicating the names of the parents.
  • One completed birth certificate application form.
  • One completed legalization application form.

Please ensure that you provide a self-addressed and pre-paid return envelope through Xpresspost or Priority Post.

Registration of Marriage

The married applicants are required to submit an application in person. Please make an appointment with a consulate official in advance.

The following documents are required :

  • The married applicants’ valid passports
  • A divorce certificate or court’s judgement is required if one of the applicants previously registered a marriage under foreign laws
  • In the case where one of the applicants previously registered a marriage under Thai law, a Thai certificate of Divorce or a court’s judgment is required
  • Copies of Thai Identification Cards or Thai House Registrations, if available
  • If one of the parties is a non-Thai citizen, a certified status letter is required

Registration of Divorce

Both divorce applicants are required to submit their applications in person. Please make an appointment with the consulate’s official in advance.
The following documents are required:

  • Both parties’ valid passports
  • The original Thai Certificate of Marriage
  • Copies of Thai Identification Cards or Thai House Registrations

Death Certificates

To apply for a Thai citizen’s death certificate, the applicant’s relationship to the deceased must be as a household member, such as a son, daughter, parent, spouse, or close relative.

The following documents are required:

  • Thai Passport of the deceased and Thai Identification Card
  • Death Certificate issued by Statistics Office including the agency’s official embossed seal. It must be certified by a notary public or lawyer
  • Thai Passport of the applicant
  • Completed application forms

Registration of Adoption

To register an adoption of Thai national, upon receiving notification that the Board of Adoption of Thailand has approved the adoption, all prospective parents must submit the following documents to the Consulate:

1.Completed both prospective registration request forms
2.Copies of parents’ passports and/or other identification documents
3.Copy of the adopted child’s passport

To request a certified true copy of adoption registration, submit an application for legalization and pay the fee to the Consulate.
